Volunteering Opportunities:
+Homework Helpers (our greatest need!) 3:30-4:15pm
We are looking for enthusiastic tutors to work with students one-on-one during 30 minute after-school homework sessions. Students in grades 1-6 need support and academic guidance as they grapple with math concepts, reading skills, problem solving strategies, writing and study skills. For many of our students, homework support through SUN is the only chance they get to receive help and complete their work. A tutor increases student confidence, all while making the task a little more fun! Responsibilities may include: o Supervising a group of 15 students doing homework o Working with small groups or one-on-one with students seeking help o Tutoring students in academic subjects o Communicating effectively with SUN staff and students Time: H.W. Club is held on Mondays-Thursdays, from 3:30-4:15pm. Homework Helpers are welcome to come one to four days a week, but a consistent commitment is expected each week, so we know when we can count on you. +After-school Instructors We seek creative and energetic individuals who would like to share a personal talent or interest with our students. Instructors design, develop and teach classes which enhance students' academic skills and provide new learning opportunities through enrichment activities. Classes meet two days a week for 7 weeks. Classes can include anything from Basketball to Jewelry Design, Ocean Exploration to Cookie Making, French to Architecture of Pyramids. More standard courses in science, math, creative writing and the like are also encouraged. Bridger family members are strongly encouraged to think of subjects they can share with SUN students. Daily schedule: 3:00-3:20: Supper 3:20-3:40: Recess 3:45-4:15: Homework 4:15-5:15: Enrichment Class 5:15: Dismissal +After-school Classroom Assistants We are looking for individuals to help assist with many of our after school classes, including science, sports camp, art, Lego Robotics, cooking, homework club, and basketball. Classroom assistants help tutor students during homework time, and then assist classroom instructors with daily activities, providing extra attention and support to students who need it the most. +Event Coordinators + Volunteers Volunteer day-of at one of many events that will be going on at Bridger throughout the school year. These include: -PTA Fall Ball (Nov) -SUN Multicultural Craft Night (Dec) -SUN Family Game Night (Jan) -SUN Día de los Niños (April) -PTA Auction (March) - PTA Mt. Tabor Blast (May) -Other school + PTA events Volunteer roles will be posted to this site prior to each event. We primarily need help with translating written materials. This job can usually be performed off-site if necessary, and provides a remarkable service for our community (individual must be able to read and write in specific language). Individuals available for periodic in-person translation help during parent meetings are also needed. If you speak Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, French or Somali, please consider helping us! |
